While this site is generally focussed on films, there’s no reason not to talk about TV shows from time to time!
Lee Child’s character Jack Reacher was brought to the big screen several years ago. At the time, and probably every since, people have criticised the studio’s casting decisions. Tom Cruise might be a very accomplished actor, but he is not exactly physically imposing (even if he’s way fitter than many men half his age!). Jack Reacher is clearly described throughout the books as being a very large man. So when news came out that there was a television series in the works many fans were worried that they’d end up having the same kind of problem. A physically mismatched actor. (I’ll admit that I had serious issues with Cruise being cast for the films, but I definitely enjoyed them and could ignore his diminutive stature)
This time round the TV studio is Amazon and they’ve cast a rather large man in the role of Reacher, Alan Ritchson. Ritchson is 6ft 2in, so he’s definitely tall enough.
Here’s the trailer for the upcoming show:
So what do you think?
The series is based on “Killing Floor”, which is the first of Lee Child’s novels. It’ll be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from February 4th 2022.
The first trailer was released yesterday and so far has garnered mostly positive feedback, but whether the show will live up to the hype or not remains to be seen. Amazon Studios have been investing heavily in content over the last couple of years bringing several big production shows to the platform.
