Mulan to Stream on Disney+ at a Premium

Disney will be streaming their upcoming blockbuster Mulan on the Disney+ platform. It won’t be getting the wide cinema release that had been originally planned as a result of the global pandemic.

However the film is not included in the standard priced Disney+ plan, so if you want to watch it you’ll have to pay an extra fee.

For Irish users the fee to watch Mulan will be an extra €21.99 under what Disney are calling “Premier Access”.

Once you’ve paid for this and maintain your Disney+ account you’ll have access to Mulan, though reading between the lines it’s clear that it will eventually be added to the standard Disney+ catalogue anyway.

Mulan will be available on Disney+ from September 4th 2020 both via the Disney+ website as well as on Apple, Google and Roku platforms (think AppleTV for example).

Here’s the official trailer:

Mulan stars Yifei Liu as Mulan; Donnie Yen as Commander Tung; Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan; Yoson An as Cheng Honghui; with Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor.

Disney’s move to offering Mulan on their streaming platform is a distinct departure for a studio that historically has controlled how their content is released both in cinemas and in other media. Over the past few months other studios have opted to release their new films via streaming services such as iTunes at a premium price. The difference with Disney+ is that up until now it was an “all you can eat” service similar to Netflix.

If you don’t want to pay a premium to see the new live action film the original Disney animated production is already available on Disney+
