The original Karate Kid film was released way back in 1984. I remember going to see it in the cinema when I wasn’t even a teen! In the original film Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) went up against his nemesis Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) from the Cobra Kai dojo.
The film franchise went on to have a couple of sequels starring Ralph Macchio and his sensei Mr. Miyagi (the late Noriyuki “Pat” Morita), followed by a couple of attempts at rebooting the franchise in 1994 with Hillary Swank and again in 2010 with Jaden Smith.
Now, more than 30 years after the release of the first film, Kobra Kai is coming to our screens. And it will re-unite Macchio and Zabka on screen.

The show is due to be released on YouTube Red. For Irish viewers it’s unclear how they’ll be able to watch the show legally as YouTube Red is not available in Ireland.
